Snohomish Slew, the Meteorologist Frognosticator extraordinaire and mighty small hero to all the weather weary Gets the Jump" on Punxsutawney Phil and his shadowy claim to fame.

GroundFrog Day is January 30th and this years Its Easy Being Green event will be held at Ferguson Park, 1330 Ferguson Park Road, Snohomish, WA. Frognostication Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. A special dedication of a park bench will be made to honor the founder of GroundFrog Day, Daryl Bertholet who passed away in July of 2009.

Slews Scribes, fluent in frogese, will pronounce Slews long range winter weather prediction. Do we brace for another 8 more weeks of Foggy, Soggy and Wet or do we look forward to skies of gray, moist and breezy? (After all, this is the Northwest.)

The Community Frogorama will be held at the National Guard Armory building from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Slew's passion for Northwest Green continues at the Frogorama by promoting how we all can live, work, play and ride green with vending booths, Kids recycled Arts and Crafts, frogtabulous games, Green demonstrations, and great entertainment.

Learn how you can win the title of King, Queen, Prince and Princess to reign as the 2011 GroundFrog Day Royalty and represent Slew at the Snohomish Easter Parade, Kla Ha Ya Days Parade and Festival of Pumpkins.

FEMA Awards Evergreen State College Over $1 Million For Seismic Retrofits

County lifts burn ban for unincorporated areas
A burn ban imposed July 15 for unincorporated areas of Snohomish County has been lifted. Individuals with residential burn permits are now able to have controlled fires. Recreational fires also are allowed in approved fire pits and do not need a burn permit.

Sacrifice is something that many Americans are becoming all too familiar with during this economic downturn. It was a key theme in President Obama's inaugural address to the nation, and he's referenced it numerous times when lecturing the country on how to get back on its feet.

But while most of the country is pinching pennies and downsizing summer sojourns - or forgoing them altogether - the Obamas don't seem to be heeding their own advice. While many of us are struggling, the First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her "closest friends."
