A cooperative effort to clean our stormwater drainage system has begun this week, thanks to the efforts of the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE), Snohomish County, the City of Lake Stevens, and the City of Snohomish. This state-sponsored effort will continue until all catch basins citywide receive inspection and cleaning. The Maintenance/Technical Ace Crew (MTAC) includes City stormwater department staff and Snohomish County staff and equipment. The equipment was provided through a DOE grant. Costs for staff time are also provided for through the same grant. Stormwater quality will be greatly improved by having clean and properly functioning catch basins. As a significant contributor of stormwater to the Snohomish and Pilchuck Rivers, the City of Snohomish is excited to be able to improve the quality of water of the rivers with which we are so closely identified! The crews will be working throughout the City and are easily identifiable by the MTAC signs on the vehicles. Please have patience, should this work disturb your day-to-day life. We are working hard to preserve and protect the environment!
